Your Failures Are Your Way Out

Just when you think you have it all figured out. You don’t.

I took a trip last weekend to Maine with my wife for our 15th wedding anniversary. Everything was great. The accommodations were amazing. The weather was incredible. If you’ve ever been to the Maine coast, you know how special it is. We were relaxed and having fun. Then the trip was over.

We got on the road at a reasonable time and headed south on I-95 to the Boston airport. We put on an inspirational talk from a creator we follow on You Tube. She was talking about how life is working out for all of us in the ways that it needs to. When we are in a place of gratitude, we literally shape our reality to match what we desire.

Awesome, right?

Then we hit Boston traffic. I missed the airport exit. We ended up in downtown Boston. Our flight was scheduled to take off in an hour and we were 20 minutes away from the rental car return and we weren’t in line for the flight check in as we had planned.

My mind went immediately to frustration and panic as the possibility of missing our flight was a real outcome. I was pissed.

But why?

I was just reminded from the You Tube video that gratitude of the present moment was where I wanted to be. So why was I feeling out of control?

Then I remembered.

We are programmed for failure. Every one of us. No matter how hard we try, we are never going to escape failure. There is no playbook we are born with to show us exactly what to do and how to avoid making mistakes.

We got to the airport and the flight was delayed an hour. We had plenty of time. My thoughts of “I should know better”, “this is what I help people with; why am I struggling here?” and “I should be past these frustrations” went away.

My reaction to the situation was based on my negative perception, not reality. The reality was it was all fine. Even if we missed that flight and got home late, it was all going to be what it was.

I remembered what I already know to be true and chalked up my moment of stress to a learning opportunity.

You are being called to create the reality you want. It’s an ability to see that when you are met with disappointment, failure, or a mistake, you can catalyze that experience to your benefit.

You cannot skip this step of knowing truth if you are going to move forward and get out of your mental rut. It’s not an option but a requirement.

The unavoidable truth is that you are a flawed human being. You are going to make mistakes. You are going to get off course. You are going to do things that go against your better knowing of what to do.

Just because you learn a lesson does not mean that you won’t be forced to repeat a scenario that tests your learning.

Anger, frustration, guilt, resentment.

Those negative feelings you have when we experience a difficulty, or a failure, are going to be there. We cannot escape having our human experience.

What can change is your relationship with your negative experiences. It might be something mildly frustrating, or it might be devastating.

You are going to have the reaction that you are having. But you can bring levity and understanding to what is happening. There’s no need to fight reality. There is only the choice to accept it.

You must first learn how to accept your circumstance as it is before you can manifest the desired change you want.

You might be able to relate. Living life from a false reality of perfection and frustration is taking away not only from your peace of mind, but from your next achievement, goal, and breakthrough.

The payoff of practicing this is immeasurable. Whether the challenge you are going though is minor or a big one, the lesson is the same.

If you are struggling with transitioning from “knowing what to do” to “living how I want to be,” or if you want to know how to use your current life circumstances to move past your negative relationship with reality to achieve your goal or breakthrough:

Set up a free conversation with me

In that conversation, we’ll talk about what’s going on and how to get from where you’re stuck in your current thought patterns so you can break free.

I have selected limited slots this month for people who are ready to move past their old, conditioned state of being so they can start seeing what they’re capable of.

I’ll show you how coaching can be a powerful catalyst in any goal, or desire you have, to get the life you want.

I’ll talk to you soon,

John
